Looking for a creative Father's Day dessert idea?
Check out E-Trender, Sue Keels adorable DIY cupcake post...
Start with your favorite cupcake recipe and butter-cream icing. You can use box mix or make them from scratch. I used vanilla...frost the cupcakes and dip the cupcakes in green sprinkles (AKA grass).
I purchased a fun golf candy mold at the local candy making store. Instead of using lollipop sticks I used golf tees which is the perfect size for sticking in a cupcake not to mention it looks adorable and authentic!
Make sure you let the golf-pops cool - I put them in the freezer to "chill out"
Now it's time to make the flag pole. Pick your favorite color Tootsie Roll and roll the candy to create the numbers. It is super easy to create the numbers and as you roll the Tootsie Roll is softens up a bit.
Use another Tootsie Roll for the flag. Roll the candy so it's flat and cut out a large triangle (one candy per flag). After creating the flags wrap the flag shaped candy around the top of a vanilla wafer cookie roll. I used the brand Royal Dansk however OREO makes a great wafer roll as well.
Tip: Place the flag poles in the freezer for a few so the flag gets hard and does not wilt.
When adding the numbers take a toothpick and add a little of the melted white chocolate used for the golf-pops and "glue" the numbers in place.
I love using graham cracker crumbs for sand. Fill 1/2 of a martini glass with the crumbs (AKA sand) and place the cupcake in the martini glass. I added a little sand to the top of the cupcake. Now stick the chilled flag pole and golf-pop in the cupcake right before serving.
I enjoy serving cupcakes in martini glasses - it's a fun alternative instead of using a cupcake tree.
