Hosting a tea party is a great way to entertain your guests this spring! Recently E-Trender Sue Keels had the opportunity to experience tea at The Plaza Hotel in New York! It was a divine and inspiring afternoon - check it out!
The entrance to The Plaza Hotel makes such a statement! When you walk up the red carpet stairs greeted by the doorman it certainly sets the scene for a magical experience at the Palm Court!
The Palm Court in the legendary Plaza is New York City’s premier destination for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. As part of the hotel’s $450 million, three-year restoration, The Palm Court has been lovingly restored to its original pristine beauty. The room’s $6.5 million restoration included the re-creation of the original 1907 stained-glass lay light, which was covered up in the 1950s.
Originally constructed in 1907 under the name ‘The Tea Room’, The Palm Court, has been a quintessential New York destination since its incarnation. Throughout the years, The Palm Court has served as a venue for the ‘who’s who’ of politicians and dignitaries, celebrities, New York socials, locals and visitors alike.
The Palm Court’s décor features new lighting and furnishings, including table linens and skirts, banquettes, and a mahogany center island for a continental buffet and tea set-up. The newly-constructed menu from Executive Chef Willis Loughhead emphasizes farm-to-table style dishes featuring organic and local ingredients of impeccable quality sourced from a variety of New York regions including the Finger Lakes, Niagara, the Long Island Sounds, and the Hamptons.
Breakfast dishes include Oak Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, Panettone French Toast, Green Market Egg White Frittata, and Spring Vegetable Quiche, in addition to The Plaza Continental Buffet. Lunch dishes include Panko Crusted Tuna and Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, plus a selection of soups, entrée salads, organic burgers and sandwiches, including the signature Lobster & Waffles sandwich, and entrees such as “Macaroni and Cheese” Casserole and North Atlantic Fish and Chips. A three-course prix fixe lunch is also available for $29. The Palm Court also offers a selection of tea pastries and desserts, prepared by Pastry Chef Jasmina Bojic, including Mascarpone Cheesecake, Chocolate Cupcakes, and Fresh Macaroons.
The Palm Court features an extensive tea menu offering classic versions of the afternoon tea. The classic Palm Court Tea ($45) includes a three tier display of scones, tea sandwiches and pastries; the New Yorker Tea ($45) offers quintessential “New Yorker” menu items such as black and white cookies, organic roast beef on a pretzel roll, and New York cheesecake. Additional tea options include a Chocolate Tea ($55), which boasts a sumptuous chocolate fondue, and the Eloise Tea ($28), based on The Plaza’s most famous six-year-old hotel guest.
The scones were to die for! Don't you just love the way they are tucked perfectly in the linen napkin - why not try this presentation at your next tea party? E-Trenders - check out our previous tea post here which includes a delish scone recipe.
